Be Your Own Boss, Get Your Own Carrier Authority

All new entrant Motor Carriers must submit an application package to obtain both a DOT Number and an MC Number. After the initial application has been submitted, before the authority will be granted:

  • A BOC-3 Blanket Agent listing must be filed. (We handle this for you.) This is a simply a representative agent in each state upon whom court papers may be served in any proceeding brought against a motor carrier, broker, or freight forwarder.

  • Your insurance company must file proof of liability insurance.

  • US DOT NUMBER

The United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) Number serves as a unique identifier when collecting and monitoring a company’s safety information acquired during audits, compliance reviews, crash investigations, and inspections.

A USDOT Number is required to operate as a Common or Contract carrier hauling cargo in interstate commerce. This is also required to haul hazardous materials in interstate commerce, or for commercial vehicles that are over 10,000 pounds.

    Motor Carrier Number MC

FMCSA operating authority is often identified as an "MC," "FF," or "MX" number, depending on the type of authority that is granted. Unlike the USDOT Number application process, a company may need to obtain multiple operating authorities to support its planned business operations. Operating Authority dictates the type of operation a company may run and the cargo it may carry.

    BOC 3 Process Agents

The BOC-3 is used to designate process agents (also known as BOC-3 agents) in all 50 states in which the business operates. It is required by all motor carriers, brokers and freight forwarders to obtain their own operating authority and must be kept on file with the Federal Motor Safety Carrier Administration (FMCSA) at all times. A BOC-3 agent is a designated person or office that accepts legal documents on your behalf.

We can secure your permanent Process Agents for every state and file your form BOC-3 with the FMCSA for you. We will then send you the form BOC-3 for your records.

    Form 2290 HVUT

HVUT stands for Heavy Vehicle Use Tax which is an annual federal highway tax imposed on certain heavy motor vehicles, including trucks, truck tractors, and buses using our public highways. The tax applies only to vehicles with a taxable gross weight of 55,000 pounds or more. The federal government then distributes revenues back to the states for highway construction and maintenance projects.
